Sustainable Couture: Met Gala Quilted Jumpsuit
intro
video
Two weeks ago I had the realization that the Met Gala was coming up and it might be a fun endeavor to see if I could create a look inspired by the theme of Karl Lagerfeld: a line of beauty. Karl Lagerfeld, despite being a controversial figure a lot of the time, nevertheless influenced my fashion journey through his love and appreciation of crafts such as crochet. He believed that crafts should be celebrated as art and I couldn’t agree more.
I created this Met Gala ‘sustainable couture’ look using deadstock metallic tweed from Nona Source. The fabric was quilted by hand and shaped into a wide leg jumpsuit with sculptural pockets. I used boning in the crochet sleeves to give the illusion of a structure that could support themself and hand-made silk organza flowers for the hood. For a bigger window into the inspiration and craft behind these pieces checkout the behind-the-scenes interview with me on Youtube.

Spring/Summer 2023 Runway Trends: Ep 1: Buy, Thrift, Make or Pass Trending Colors
In the realm of sustainable fashion, one might argue that following trends fuels overconsumption and should be eschewed. Indeed, in an ideal world where personal style is unwavering and our wardrobes never bore us, this could hold true. However, reality paints a different picture, and we must address the question: How can we harness the ever-evolving trend cycle to cultivate a sustainable, expressive, and empowering wardrobe?
Enter the inaugural episode of Buy, Thrift, Make or Pass—an innovative series that navigates the world of fashion trends with an eco-conscious twist. Drawing upon a decade of industry expertise, I will divulge my insights on the trend du jour, showcase pieces from my existing collection that align with it, and offer expert guidance on purchasing new items, thrifting, upcycling, or simply bypassing the trend altogether. Outfits Inspired by Fashion Week Cities
It shouldn’t be legal to have as much fun as I did creating the looks for this series. With Fashion Week coming and going in lockdown this year I decided to make an Instagram Outfit Challenge that focused on Fashion Week Cities as the theme and was it ever fun! Watch a video montage version HERE.
London
The first look was inspired by London fashion week a place where color is embraced to the fullest extent. A chic trouser and statement outerwear moment can really be worn anywhere but the fun resurgent trend of neon lime with these Collusion trousers took this look to another level fit for London Fashion Week. Quilted items are also big trend coming out of the cozy vibe of 2020 and this Ganni coat checks all the boxes for cozy and trendy at the same time.
Paris
I had SO much fun putting together and wearing this look for my ‘Paris’ inspired fashion. The styling is a bit cliché leaning into tweed and boucle in the vein of Chanel.
