Patent is Back: A Casual Holiday Look for Girls’ Night
This week is all about getting Holiday ready with holiday parties and New Years parties filling our calendars. If you are like me by this time of the month you have your fancy party outfits planned but you are still trying to figure out what to wear to gingerbread house viewing or your kind of holiday themed girls’ night out. That’s what today’s look is all about: the ‘casual holiday outfit.’
First let’s start with a trend update: Patent Leather has been a breakout start of the season and it is only going to get bigger next year. From patent pants to jackets to shoes this shiny leather option is a welcome salute to 80’s fashion. Increasingly we are seeing less leather on the market and more faux which means that your patent option really is more of a vinyl, not that there is anything wrong with that. The only downside of the non-true-leather option is it tends to stick to itself a bit as you move so be careful with a pant option in this faux patent and opt instead for an easy silhouette like this oversized moto jacket version.
Red may just happen to be one of my favorite colors but during this time of year it also makes an outfit feel festive and seasonally relevant. In today’s look the shiny nature of the patent jacket combined with the rich red color gives it a fancy holiday feel even though it is an item you can have and wear in your closet all year ’round. It is also exceptionally cold most places this time of year, including Seattle, so oversized layers are incredibly welcome and a hint of skin keeps the look from being too Michelin man-ish. Lastly, this particular multi-color beanie has been glued to my head since the temperatures dropped below 40 degrees in Seattle but the colorful fur also adds a pop of fun as well as warmth to your winter look. Now you are already ahead of the trend with your fun new patent items AND you look chic and cozy in time for your latest holiday adventure. Thanks so much for reading! -Rebecca
