The Best Plaid Coat EVER: the Infamous Isabel Marant ‘Fred’ Jacket
I chose the plaid. In case you haven’t been following me on Instagram you should know that I fell in love with this Isabel Marant Etoile ‘Fred’ jacket just around my birthday and couldn’t decide whether to purchase it in a buffalo check plaid OR to buy it in a true Isabel Marant-esque striped pattern, so I purchased both. I solicited help from the insta-community to determine which I should keep and the plaid ended up winning. Here’s why:
I am a statement-coat-wearer through and through, I don’t even think I own a black ‘coat’, jackets a plenty yes but even there I think there are maybe 3 black options out of a sea of color. As with all pieces in a good wardrobe some of the most coveted are the easiest to wear that are also function, beautifully made and in my case: make a statement. Before this I didn’t have a great plaid coat in my wardrobe and while some may think plaid is unexciting and basic this jacket is anything but that. The oversized silhouette gathered in the back with toggle closures in the from is quite striking and elevated stylistically. By choosing the more subdued pattern the details and the construction of the coat are allowed to take center stage. While on a hanger the plaid may seem one dimensional on a figure it reveals a beautiful drop shoulder and oversized frame that is simultaneously easy to wear and show stopping, essentially the perfect coat. On top of that the high wool content of this beauty keeps you warm AND dry which is essential in our sometimes freezing, sometimes drizzling Seattle climate.
You see this isn’t just any plaid coat, this is statement making yet understated beautiful type of item that you wish your closet was full of. And for the record… I haven’t returned the striped one yet either…
Thanks for reading and stay warm out there this winter!-Rebecca
