The Perfect Pairing: Shorts & Knee High Boots

I think we have established by now that I love a good mismatching printed set in the same color palette. It just works and if it’s black & white then even better. Another match made in fashion heaven would be the knee high boots plus anything with an even slightly higher hemline: dresses, skirts or shorts like in today’s look. Unless it’s in the middle of a heat wave in the summer time I am not one for showing too much skin and Seattle’s regular weather patterns certainly don’t lend themselves to baring it all either. The knee high boot helps us bridge that gap by adding coverage as well as warmth while still allowing you to play with a more flirty hemline.

This morning in the office I actually witnessed this phenomenon again of the shorter dress with a  knee high or over the knee boot to balance out the hemline. Not only did it work beautifully but it also made a more summery dress seem appropriate for the season. Add a leather jacket and voila! But today we are again talking about shorts and while I feel like we are used to skirts and dresses being paired with knee high boots we shouldn’t be afraid of adding shorts to the mix, especially dressy ones. Shorts are certainly the new skirt in many cases and they can be elevated significantly while you add interest to your look as well simply by adding a fabulous pair of boots.
